स्वतंत्रता दिवस विशेष- कैसे पटना में शहीद हुए देशप्रेमी? / समीर परिमल (How patriots were martyred in patna?/Samir Parimal)

"परदेसी ये बात न पूछो,

कैसे हम आज़ाद हुए,

कितनी माँ की गोद लुट गई,

कितने घर बर्बाद हुए"

            आज से 75 साल पहले आज के ही दिन यानी 11 अगस्त 1942 को बिहार के सात सपूत पटना सचिवालय पर तिरंगा फहराने के क्रम में अंग्रेजों द्वारा गोली मारे जाने से शहीद हो गए थे। ये सभी छात्र थे जिन्होंने अगस्त क्रांति (भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन) के दौरान वीरता एवं लड़ाकूपन की अद्भुत एवं अद्वितीय मिसाल प्रस्तुत की। पटना के तत्कालीन जिलाधिकारी डब्ल्यू जी आर्थर के आदेश पर पुलिस ने गोलियां चलाई थीं। इसमें लगभग 13 से 14 राउंड गोलियों की बौछार हुई थी।

    

      ये सात सपूत थे उमाकांत प्रसाद सिंह, रामानंद सिंह, सतीश प्रसाद झा, जगपति कुमार, देवीपद चौधरी, राजेन्द्र सिंह और राम गोविंद सिंह।

इस अभियान का नेतृत्व कर रहे थे देवीपद चौधरी। देवी पद चौधरी की उम्र 14 साल की थी। वे सिलहट (वर्तमान में बांग्लादेश) के जमालपुर गांव के रहने वाले थे। वे जब सचिवालय की ओर अपने छह साथियों के साथ बढ़ रहे थे तो पुलिस ने उन्हें रोकना चाहा पर वे रुकने वाले कहां थे। देवीपद तिरंगा थामे आगे बढ़ रहे थे कि पुलिस ने उन्हें गोली मार दी। देवीपद को गिरते देख पटना जिले के दशरथ गांव के रामगोविंद सिंह आगे बढ़े और हाथ में तिरंगा ले लिया। देवकी सिंह के पुत्र रामगोविंद सिंह उस समय पुनपुन के हाईस्कूल में दसवीं कक्षा में पढ़ रहे थे।

      रामगोविंद सिंह आगे बढ़े, पुलिस ने उन्हें भी गोली मार दी। तिरंगा रामानंद सिंह ने थामा और उसे गिरने नहीं दिया। पटना जिले के रहने वाले रामानंद सिंह 10वीं कक्षा के छात्र थे। उनकी शादी हो चुकी थी। रामानंद को गिरता देख सारण जिले के दिघवारा के निवासी राजेन्द्र सिंह ने तिरंगा थामा। राजेन्द्र सिंह आगे बढ़े। वे गर्दनीबाग उच्च विद्यालय में पढ़ाई कर रहे थे। उनका भी विवाह हो चुका था। राजेन्द्र सिंह के पिता शिवनारायण सिंह थे। राजेन्द्र सिंह से तिरंगे को गिरता देख जगपति कुमार ने संभाला। जगपति कुमार औरंगाबाद जिले के रहने वाले थे।

       जगपति कुमार को एक गोली हाथ में लगी दूसरी गोली छाती में धंसी और तीसरी गोली जांघ में लगी फिर भी तिरंगा नहीं झुका। अब आगे आये भागलपुर जिले (बांका) के बरापुरा ग्राम के श्री मथुरा प्रसाद के सुपुत्र सतीश झा। वे पटना कालेज में पढ़ते थे। तिरंगा फहराने की कोशिश में इन्हें भी गोली मार दी गई। सतीश भी शहीद हो गए पर झण्डा नहीं गिरने दिया।

उसे आगे बढ़कर उठा लिया उमाकान्त सिंह ने जो मात्र 15 वर्ष के थे। वे पटना के बी.एन. कॉलेज के द्वितीय वर्ष के छात्र थे। पुलिस दल ने उन्हें भी गोली का निशाना बनाया, पर उन्होंने गोली लगने पर भी आखिरकार सचिवालय के गुम्बद पर तिरंगा फहरा ही दिया। इसके बाद वे शहीद हो गए।

       स्वतन्त्रता प्राप्ति के बाद इस स्थान पर शहीद स्मारक का निर्माण हुआ। इसका शिलान्यास स्वतन्त्रता दिवस को बिहार के प्रथम राज्यपाल जयराम दौलत राय के हाथों हुआ। औपचारिक अनावरण देश के प्रथम राष्ट्रपति डॉ. राजेन्द्र प्रसाद ने 1956 में किया।

       75 years ago today, on 11th August, 1942, seven giant sons of Bihar were martyred after being shot by the British in order to hoist the tricolor on the Patna secretariat. These were all students who presented a wonderful and unique example of bravery and struggle during the August Revolution (Quit India Movement). Police fired bullets at the order of W.G. Arthur, the then District Magistrate Patna. There were about 13 to 14 round of fires.
    
      The seven sons were Umakant Prasad Singh, Ramanand Singh, Satish Prasad Jha, Jagpathy Kumar, Devideep Chaudhary, Rajendra Singh and Ram Govind Singh. The campaign was led by Devi Pad. Chaudhary. Devi Pad Chaudhary was 14 years old. He was a resident of Jamalpur village of Silhat (presently Bangladesh). When they were moving along with their six companions towards the Secretariat, the police wanted to stop them but where were they going to stop? Devi Pad was going ahead with the tricolor when the police shot him. Ramgovind Singh of Dashrath village of Patna district went ahead and took the tricolor in his hand, seeing the fall of Devi Pad. Ramgovind Singh, son of Devaki Singh, was studying in Class X in High School, Punpun at that time.

      Ramgovind Singh went ahead, the police shot him too. Now tricolour was held by Ramanand Singh who did not let it fall. Ramanand Singh, a resident of Patna district, was a Class 10 student. They were married. Rajendra Singh resident of Dighwara of Saran district kept hold of tricolor watching Ramanand falling. Rajendra Singh proceeded. He was studying at the Higher Secondary School in Gordhanbagh. He had also got married. Rajendra Singh's father was Shivnarayan Singh. Jagjit Singh took control of the tricolor when Rajendra Singh was falling. Jagpathy Kumar was a resident of Aurangabad district.

       Jagpathy Kumar was shot by a bullet into the second hand and was hit onto the thigh, still he did not let the tricolor bend. Now Satish Jha, the son of Sri Mathura Prasad of Barpura village of Bhagalpur district (Banka) came forward. He used to study in Patna College. He was also shot in an attempt to hoist the tricolor. Satish was also martyred but the flag did not fall. Umakant Singh, who was only 15 years old, picked it up. He was a second year student of B.N. College. The police team also targeted him, but even after being shot, he finally hoisted the tricolor on the dome of the secretariat. After this he became martyr.

       After the independence, the martyr memorial was built on this spot. Its foundation was laid by the hands of Bihar's first Governor, Jairam Dulat Rai. Formal unveiling was done by the country's first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1956.
