भोजपुरी गज़ल

(with poetic English translation)

घात और प्रतिघात बिया

जिनगी लह-लह पात बिया

Only attack and counter-attack

Life is leaves burning in pack

बूँट-मटर के टूसा-अस

रोज-रोज टुँगात बिया

As little follicles of grams and peas
Are being pecked at and with a knack

सुख दुख के सिलवट लोढ़ा 

चटनी नियर पिसात बिया
Pleasure-pain are whetstone-pounder 

Sauce must be ground to smack

जबरा मारि न रोबे दे

लबरा अस मुसुकात बिया

Forcing the jaws let not to weep

Like a vandal we smiles to whack

बिछत बिसात सियासत के

उजबुक बनि घिघियात बिया

On chessboard of politics

Mads groan and we are taken aback

धनकी धनकी जनि अकुता

सुनुगत बिया धुँआत बिया.

It never tires of smothering

Catches fire and smokes leave back.
