Shakespeare- the uncrowned king of pure expression
(Report by Rajan Kumar Singh)
On the occasion of
the four hundredth death anniversary of
the great playwright Shakespeare a joint function was organized in Patna by
Sanskritikarmi (theatre-artists) and Bihar Secondary Teachers Association for
opposing violence in society. The topic of discussion was ‘Shakespere of our time’ and the venue was Madhyamik
Shikshak Sangh Bhawan, Jamal Road, Patna.
While addressing
the program, Mr. K. K. Narayan said that regardless of the impact of films in
the society today, Shakespeare's plays are an integral part of our society
today. Referring to the world-famous play 'Hamlet', 'Othello', 'Macbeth' and
'Julius Caesar', Narayan said that this drama tells the character of the
society and the individual and their mutual relationships with the society. Selection
of characters was his specialty. Generally, when someone opposes nowadays, he
is considered a leftist and when he is ready to negotiate he is termed a
rightist. Shakespeare was such a playwright, even critics also believed that he
was really great. The power to know the invisible makes the artist great. He has
lived the character of his plays himself. He had no school degree and he had
learnt in the courtyard of the nature. In a sarcastic note, Mr. Narayanan said
that when one person speaks and everyone hears it is a ‘Shok-sabha’
(Condolence) and when everyone speaks and no one listens, it is called Lok
Sabha (Parliament).
Arun
Kamal, a well-known poet of Hindi, said that William Shakespeare was an English
poet, dramatist and actor who was one of the important and famous writers of
the English language. The name of the theater is the Greek origin, which means to
see. At the time of Shakespeare it was christened as the theater. Arun Kamal
said that Shakespeare is my favorite poet. I have gone to his house twice. He
said that great actor Charlie Chaplin had said that Shakespeare, who comes from
a rural background, puts us in doubt. There is happiness in his drama as well
as the gloom. There is humor too which means all forms of life are in Shakespeare's play.
Referring to Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' drama, Arun Kamal said that many people have
committed suicide while
working in this drama. Condition is that the people of the theater still do not
do this drama with the same name, and consider it as a bad omen. Shakespeare
used approximately 20000 English words, while at that time English had about
120,000 words. He made 17,000 words himself. His play became very popular in
the Persian Theater. Mr. Arun Kamal concluded by saying that those people who
play Shakespere’s play become Shakespere at that moment.
Professor
of English at TPS College Chhotlal Khatri said that today the whole world is
the platform of Shakespeare. Today Shakespeare belongs to England as well as
the whole world In whom literature, playwright and researcher have been working
continuously. Pro. Khatri said that Shakespeare had a strong hold on nature,
that is why he shows all forms of human life in reality with his play. At the
same time, he talked about support provided to Shakespeare by the government at
the time of British imperialism. But the fact that his works are pure
expression makes him great.
Anish
Ankur compered this function of discussion on Shakespeare at’ our time. The program was also addressed by
psychiatrist Dr. Vinay Kumar. Presiding over the function, poet Alok Dhanwa said that Shakespeare changed his society from his plays and tried to create a society that is devoid of exploitation. Imperialism creates consumer at the level of body and suppresses the mind. Shakespeare is the creator of the mind. Vote of thanks were offered by Mrityunjay Sharma. A condemnation motion was passed unanimously on
the issues of suicides of farmers in the country, shooting incidence and the irregularities
in Bihar's education system was passed unanimously.
