' Bhookh' palyed at Patna on 26.01.2017 ('भूख' का पटना में मंचन)

THREE LONELY SISTERS - Watched a play recently at Kalidas Rangalay, Patna presented by DASTAK- the theatre company. 'Bhookh' was a stunning performance I have ever seen on the stage. The story of three lonely sisters is a testimony of the extreme insensitiveness of each strata of the society. This insensitivity is often camouflaged with a pseudo-show of discharge of due human responsibility incumbent on a civilised community. The storyline hinges upon the bizarre life of three lonely young sisters self-incarcerated in their own residential flat. What actually happened which led to the death of one of the sisters by hunger and kept the two others on the verge of the same fate? The parents have died twelve years ago. The parents were ordinarily fighting though loving couple. After their death the two elder sisters joined private jobs whereas the youngest one studied at college. After some time the elder sisters were thrown out of their jobs because of predictable unseemly reasons. Having no source of income, all the three began to stay at home. They asked for financial help to everyone. Nobody co-operated. Ultimately they found that they have only two options- either to offer their youthful bodies for prostitution business or to let their bodies die for want of food. The self-esteemed sisters opted for the second.
