The supreme sacrifice of an unconscious woman

‘Saanse’ is a moving story of an ordinary housewife who sacrifices each of her desires for the betterment of the family and in return gets only insult and deception by the husband. The husband is a drinker  who snobs himself by keeping a mistress. The legally wed wife is a good looking woman and her only sin is that she has given birth to four daughters  and not a son. She  is insulted and ousted from the house.  In a scenario of total dejection, the wife falls ill and is hospitalized by her daughters.  In the hospital, doctors say that the patient is in comma which is irrecoverable. Any further medication would only keep her heart throbbing but no other symptom of life can be resumed.

The real dilemma begins now. Keeping the patient in the hospital on life-supporting devices is very costly and hope of recovery is non-existent. Whether euthanasia should be administered to put an end to further infructuous  cost.  On this plight of the wife now the drinker man has deep repentance that it is he would gave so much of pains to this noble woaman. 

With a heavy heart, the husband urges the doctor to stop the supply of oxygen by removing the gas mask. The doctor as well as all of the family members present there are perplexed. The tension in the mind of the husband at it's peak thinking that he who could never keep her wife happy while she was alive is going to take her life away to remove her pains. All of them are stumbled as what to do now? Suddenly a daughter who is nearer to the patient says that now there is no need of removing the oxygen mast as her mother is dead now and she has exonerated all from the guilt feeling. So the lady who always gave her everything for keeping her family happy even now by meeting the death at the nick of the time freed everyone from any further dilemma.  

It was definetely a difficult play for the director as he had a greater challenge of extracting the minute feelings of the characters especially in the last scene. These minute feelings can be shown in a comparatively easier manner on screen but on stage where every dilaogue should be loud and body movements large., it is difficult. The actors performed in an exact manner as was required. Though the main character of housewife must be praised for her succeful emotional acting. 

कथा-सार: एक महिला दिन रात परिवार की सेवा में लगी रहती है पर बदले में शराबी पति दूसरी औरत को ले आता है और पहली पत्नी की बेइज्जती करके उसे घर से निकाल देता है. वह भली औरत घोर निराशा की स्थिति में बीमार हो जाती है और अस्पताल में डॉक्टर बताते हैं कि उसको होश कभी न आ सकेगा लेकिन मशीनों की सहायता से साँस चलवाकर जिंदा रखा जा सकता है जिसमें काफी खर्च आएगा. कुछ दिन इस अवस्था में रहने देने के बाद पति काफी हताश हो जाता है. उसे अपने किये पर काफी पछतावा भी है. लेकिन जब उसकी यह पत्नी कभी होश में आएगी ही नहीं तो खर्च करने से क्या फायदा. वह डॉक्टर से ऑक्सीजन हटा लेने को कहता है. इससे सभी व्याकुल हो जाते हैं कि कैसे अपने ही हाथों से इस प्रेमस्वरूपा देवी की साँसे चलना बंद कर दिया जाय. तभी पता चलता है कि औरत मर चुकी है और इस तरह से उसने अंतिम समय में भी सबको दुविधा से उबार दिया और किसी को भी दोष भावना में आने ही नहीं दिया.
