Pleasure lies in feeling and not in sensuality

A man spends all his life merely in preparation for life and when the real time comes he feels he is now unfit to enjoy the pleasure of life. Pleasure lies in feeling of love and not in sesuality. The society is like a pack of prohibitions that does not let any love feeling  come out. And when at the age of sixty  he retires he is supposed to behave like a recluse. The playwright Dhruv Gupt stresses on the fact that the real time to love is after retirement.

The director Ajit kumar had a good sense of the theme which was reflected in the scheme of presenting the story. The platform built for old age episode was raised quite above the ground giving a focused view of the lover couple in the open sky as if they are in a balcony of a flat. The actors lived the characters in a very realistic manner. The dress designer and make-up man have shown their acumen in maintaining  the faded looks of the old characters very purposefully.

The old man feels problem in walking and the woman stands with the help of a stick. Notwithstanding their gerontic phase the feeling of man-woman love is still aflame. Also, in flash back scenes of the young age, that woman is an attractive belle who marches past an awful line of staring boys in a stately manner even while keeping her head facing the ground. The scenes were delicate in terms of directorial and playwright's venture.

The last quintessential scene looked much shorter than required. The viewers would have loved more fierce expression of dilemma at the level of old couple. Moreover the repetition of staring scenes might have been substituted by some eventful scene.

The play centered on the aspirations of the people generally thought at their fag end of the lives must be praised as it filled a glaring gap in the clutter of themes surfacing on the drama stage since long. We may look forward to such eye-opener thought provoking plays  on stage in future.
