Workshop on Visual Art organised by Govt of Bihar at Bihar Musueum, Patna from 6th to 13th of May, 2018

Contemporary avatara of Bihari themes

Neither the expensive electronic gadgets nor the graceful furniture reflect riches of your outlook the way it is done by a beautiful piece of artwork set on the wall. The ambiance turns into a lively playground which otherwise might have been a absolutely formal exchange of arguments. The effort of Government of Bihar must be applauded who decided to add a cultural perspective to an event predominantly attached with constitutional obligation.  At the very outset of being geared up for the upcoming Conference of Governors at Patna an eight-day workshop on Visual Art has been organised by Department of Culture, Government of Bihar at Bihar Museum from 6th to 13th of May, 2018. The themes of workshop are (1) Pride of Bihar, (2) Culture of Bihar  and (3) Freedom Movement of Bihar  and some 22-23 eminent artists have been called to attend it from all over the nation.

Some selected art pieces produced in the workshop will be placed permanently in the Governor House, Bihar and others will add glory to the buildings of various ministries. Out of approx. twenty-two artists, six are women making the whole exercise even more elegant.

Rabindra Das, a prominent artist and an authority in contemporary modern art, said Bihar is in very much need of a Cultural Centre like Bhart Bhawan in Bhopal. Building a Cultural Centre is bond to give a boost to the artists in the area and those who live nearby. Moreover a pride for art is generated that goes deep into the psyche of the masses of the state. And once the masses are attracted towards art they would not waste their time and energy in any sort of destructive Cause.

He deplored the fact that though the Madhubani Painting is the most sold painting from India the buyers of which are dispersed all over the world, the main profit margin is taken away by the middlemen and the original artists are still striving hard to earn their bread. It is high time that large number of outlets should be created in a manner that every artist can go and sell his product directly to the buyers. We  can learn something from Delhi Haat model.
